The Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at the Ohio State University is currently accepting abstracts and panel submissions for its inaugural conference on Popular Culture and the Deep Past, this year focused around the media of the Game of Thrones. Prospective presentations and panels will be considered on any topic related to either the Song of Ice and Fire novels or Game of Thrones television series, including but not limited to matters of medievalism, popular culture, climate change, sexuality, and gender studies. Panels may take the form of full length conference papers, short papers based around selections from the text or television series, roundtable discussions, or demonstrations. This conference seeks to bring together a wide range of disciplines, perspectives, and communities to discuss the Game of Thrones franchise, discussing how this media interprets, reimagines, and reinvigorates medievalism in popular culture.

Proposed panels thus far:

  • Gender in Game of Thrones (Paper panel)
  • Disabilities in Game of Thrones (Paper panel)
  • Sexuality in Game of Thrones (Paper panel)
