Areas of Expertise

  • European Late Medieval and Northern Renaissance Art

Professor Morganstern's primary area of expertise is in the history of European Late Medieval and Northern Renaissance figurative arts, the Iconography of Gothic tombs, Art Patronage, and Medieval French and English heraldry. She has presented her research at a variety of conferences, including those of the College Art Association of America, the Medieval Congress at Kalamazoo (MI), the International Congress of the History of Art, and the Midwest Art History Society. She is a contributing author to Gothic Sculpture in America. Her work has been supported by grants from the ACLS, NEH, and CASVA (National Gallery of Art). She is currently working on a book on a master sculptor at Chartres Cathedral.
