New Archaeological Field School in Italy

Badia Pozzeveri (Lucca, Italy)

The Department of Anthropology and the University of Pisa have established the Field School in Medieval Archaeology and Bioarchaeology at Badia Pozzeveri (Lucca, Italy). Students will be trained by experts from Ohio State and the University of Pisa in archaeological and bioarchaeological field methods. Due to its religious and historical importance, this site is particularly interesting because it will allow students of archaeology and anthropology to reconstruct the biocultural complexity in the region surrounding Lucca in the Middle Ages, shedding light on monastic subsistence, interregional trade and pilgrimage dynamics.
