For relaxation and socialization, those with an interest in Medieval and Renaissance Studies will enjoy our CMRS film series. Each autumn and spring semester we choose a theme that coordinates with a current CMRS course offering or event—you need not be taking a course to attend, however, as all are welcome. The films range from classics to recent releases, with special interest in films that are hard to find. All screenings are free and open to the public. Pizza and refreshments will be served.
Current Film Series: Magic & Witchcraft
The annual film series is back! This autumn semester (2024), we're focusing on magic and witchcraft to align with our CMRS undergraduate GE course of the same name (MedRen2666). Join us at 7:30 pm on the fourth Thursday of the month* in 180 Hagerty Hall to see a classic film about various portrayals of witches and witchcraft from the medieval to the early modern era, followed by a brief talk and Q+A. Pizza and refreshments will be served. These screenings are free and are open to all. The movies will be the following:
8/22 - The Name of the Rose (1986)
9/26 - Witchfinder General (1968)
11/21 - The Love Witch (2016)*
*November's film will be held on the third Thursday because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Find more information on each movie on their individual event page. Questions? Contact Nick Spitulski, instructor of Magic and Witchcraft, at spitulski.1@osu.edu. This series is co-sponsored by the Humanities Institute.
